Well he actually isn't a kid, he's a young man, and he is o0osing with
talent. Yep, watch out Josh Groban and meet your competition. His name
is Colin Whitfield and at only 15, I have NO DOUBT the world will
know him some day. He hired me to photograph him for promotional materials
and for his CD. For his CD he wanted a fun, hip vibe so we headed
to an urban back drop to get the feel. It was a blast working with him.

I am completely Sleep Deprived...

And I have the US Olympic team to thank for it.
I have been glued to TV since the opening ceremony
in Beijing on 08.08.08.

This morning, after another night of staying up past midnight,
I feel like it's finally catching up to me. I'm wired as a morning person,
a robin...but this morning, I finally know what it feels like to "hate"mornings.

I haven't felt this tired since the girls were born...OKAY not quite but still.
I'm off to get my cup of Joe...

The Dog Days of Summer....

I woke up this morning, feeling great!
Like every morning this was my greeting.
A thump-thump-thump down the hallway, as this big
girl comes to say hello. I swear her tail hitting the wall is like an alarm clock.

Her name is Lola, also known as Lola Bear, Polar Bear,
Woo Woo, Golden Girl, Lolita, Buffalo Butt...
She's a dog, so I swear she doesn't care that we comment on her
butt.

And anytime Lola greets me, she brings me a "present"
Sometimes she brings me a doll from the girls room, sometimes a shoe, most often a stuffed animal...
What I love about Lola is she is always happy. She really enjoys her life, sometimes I wonder what is going on
in that canine brain of hers.

Okay back to the original reason for this post..
It's August, my girls have one more month, and it's back to school.
I can honestly say this is the first summer in a few years that I have
thoroughly enjoyed.

My secrets???

I'm slowing down. I'm not running around like a chicken with my head cut off.
I'm savoring each moment.

It's funny, when you slow down, your life takes a different shape. Finding pleasure
is purer things, like my garden. It use to seem like another chore, This summer
I'm noticing the beauty, weeding is just part of the process.

Even my girls, I'm noticing them. They have changed a lot this summer. Of course
they have grown, but they are also more mature mentally. I'm giving them a more
freedom, and it's cool to see how they handle themselves. Yes, slowing down, and watching
your child grow before your very eyes is a cool thing.

Finally, Today my big, brother turns 48!!!

It's the 4th. I love this holiday for 2 reasons....
It's an opportunity to celebrate this wonderful country that we live in.
Times are tough right now, and so much is going on in the
world, but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
There are so many freedoms we have here, and I never want
to take them for granted.

The other reason why I love this weekend is tomorrow I celebrate 12 years of
marriage. Yes, 12 years. It goes by so fast....
We've been through so much, 2 homes, 2 children, and 2 animals. Financial highs and lows.
Yes, marriage is truly a journey, it's not always going to be effortless.
At times it's tough,and anyone who has been married for longer
than a hot minute (sorry hollywood celebs) can tell you, it's hard work.
But when it's good...life is complete.
If you are on my blog, you know that I'm a huge Mary J.Blige fan.
Here voice is phenomenal, and the lyrics in her songs just speak to me.
So to me this song embodies my marriage experience

Sex and the City-THE MOVIE

Last night was one
of the most fun nights I've had in a while.
I went with a friend to dinner and to see SATC-The Movie.

OK...I'll admit, I was a huge fan of the series. I loved the fashion,
and the humor. To me it was so smartly written...refreshing.

So when I heard they were coming out with a movie, my first thought was
NOOOO. Don't ruin it. I mean come on, how many good programs
have "jumped the shark"? How many good movies have one too many sequels?
(Just for the record the original Rocky is one of the best movies...EVER.)

Okay, back to SATC-The Movie; As a fan of the show, I had to see
the Movie.
Would Carrie and Big marry?
What about Samantha and Smith, are they together?
Is Charlotte happy?
Miranda....oh Miranda. Is she finally seeking the therapy she so desperately needs?

So I saw it. It did not disappoint. I loved it. I would give it a "thumbs up" for sure.
I didn't know Jennifer Hudson (American Idol) was in it. LOVE HER!
Funny side note. The show was sold out and sitting next to us
was a group of 60 something ladies....who had NEVER seen
SATC.
When they told me this, I chuckled inside.
Let's just say that there were certain scenes that made them literally cover their eyes.
You know, the kind of scenes that SATC was known for.

Today is a very special day in the Jones house.
Every year on this day I wake up out of a dead
sleep at 4:21, and 4:44 AM.
I'm serious, I really believe my body remembers the event.
It's the day I feel I earned my stripes as a woman.
It's the day I gave birth to my daughters.
8 years later, I can still remember those little faces
that we welcomed into the world...
Those 2 little beings that would change our lives...forever.
I never knew a love like it before.
The need to protect...
The need to nurture...
The willingness to give my life...
To love...unconditionally.
This miracle being...and we were blessed with 2.

Oh and did I mention they are girly girls,
Boas, big hair,painted nails, over the top Tiaras, and anything PINK!
We had a GIRLS RULE! Party...

Mollie....

highly intelligent, and sweet as they come.

I'm so excited for her, her future is so bright.
In our initial consultation she said she wanted
a session that expressed her love of the earth
and all things nature.

When she showed up in a tie-dyed top, blue
jeans, and her 6-string, I new I had picked just
the right spots for her senior session.

As I type, I'm distracted by my girls active, imaginative, play.
They are loud, and thumping around, and I'm trying not to
get upset.
Deep Breath...
Being a Mom is hard, how can something you love
so much, at times make you want to pull your hair out?
...it doesn't make sense.

Nonetheless, I know someday I will miss being distracted by
loud laughs, re-enactments of High School Musical, and thumping around
...so today I enjoy.
I laugh, I even sing a round of "We're all in this Together"

This was sent to me in an email, so I thought I would share:

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

This is for the mothers who have sat up all night with sick
toddlers in their arms, wiping up barf laced with Oscar
Mayer wieners and cherry Kool-Aid saying, 'It's
okay honey, Mommy's here.'

Who have sat in rocking chairs for hours on end soothing
crying babies who can't be comforted.

This is for all the mothers who show up at work with
spit-up in their hair and milk stains on their blouses and
diapers in their purse.

For all the mothers who run carpools and make cookies and
sew Halloween costumes. And all the mothers who DON'T.

This for the mothers who gave birth to babies they'll
never see. And the mothers who took those babies and gave
them homes.

This is for the mothers whose priceless art collections are
hanging on their refrigerator doors.

And for all the mothers who froze their buns on metal
bleachers at football or soccer games instead of watching
from the warmth of their cars.

And that when their kids asked, 'Did you see me,
Mom?' they could say, 'Of course, I wouldn't
have missed it for the world,' and mean it.

This is for all the mothers who yell at their kids in the
grocery store and swat them in despair when they stomp
their feet and scream for ice cream before dinner. And for
all the mothers who count to ten instead, but realize how
child abuse happens.

This is for all the mothers who go hungry, so their
children can eat.

For all the mothers who read 'Goodnight, Moon'
twice a night for a year. And then read it again. 'Just
one more time.'

This is for all the mothers who taught their children to
tie their shoelaces before they started school. And for all
the mothers who opted for Velcro instead.

This is for all the mothers who teach their sons to cook
and their daughters to sink a jump shot.

This is for every mother whose head turns automatically
when a little voice calls 'Mom?' in a crowd, even
though they know their own offspring are at home -- or even
away at college ~or have their own families.

This is for all the mothers who sent their kids to school
with stomach aches, assuring them they'd be just FINE
once they got there, only to get calls from the school
nurse an hour later asking them to please pick them up.
Right away.

This is for mothers whose children have gone astray, who
can't find the words to reach them.

For all the mothers who bite their lips until they bleed
when their 14 year olds dye their hair green.

For all the mothers of the victims of recent school
shootings, and the mothers of those who did the shooting.

For the mothers of the survivors, and the mothers who sat
in front of their TVs in horror, hugging their child who
just came home from school, safely.

This is for all the mothers who taught their children to be
peaceful, and now pray they come home safely from a war.

What makes a good Mother anyway? Is it patience?
Compassion? Broad hips?

The ability to nurse a baby, cook dinner, and sew a button
on a shirt, all at the same time?

Or is it in her heart?

Is it the ache you feel when you watch your son or daughter
disappear down the street, walking to school alone for the
very first time?

The jolt that takes you from sleep to dread, from bed to
crib at 2 A.M. to put your hand on the back of a sleeping
baby?

The panic, years later, that comes again at 2 A.M. when you
just want to hear their key in the door and know they are
safe again in your home?

Or the need to flee from wherever you are and hug your
child when you hear news of a fire, a car accident, a child
dying?

The emotions of motherhood are universal and so our
thoughts are for young mothers stumbling through diaper
changes and sleep deprivation... And mature mothers
learning to let go.

For working mothers and stay-at-home mothers.

Single mothers and married mothers.

Mothers with money, mothers without.

This is for you all. For all of us...

Hang in there. In the end we can only do the best we can.
Tell them every day that we love them. And pray and never
stop being a mom..

On a side note...
I was a teenager in the mid 80's and grew
up listening to Madonna.
I remember watching the unknown on American Bandstand, as she
proclaimed some day she would "rule the world".
Lucky Star...I knew every step...
Borderline....I knew every word; anytime the videos came on MTV,
I had to watch them in their complete entirety.

Vintage Fun!

So...I was taking my girls to the dentist during Spring break.
I look across the street, and I find this great place. It was part vintage
with a little bit of Sanford and Son thrown in. It was on private property,
and the owner graciously allowed me to shoot. Of course he was a character!
The inside of his home was eclectic as the outside.
I had this young guy scheduled and his artistic personality worked great
with the location.
It was the first warm day we got, so I was extra excited to shoot outside.

I love the lingering of snow in this last one.

I LOVE SPRING!
It may be my most favorite season.
I love the feeling of rebirth, emergence, renewal...
In the last week I've seen the following "signs" that
Spring is here...
Crocuses and tulips popping thru the earth.
Rain...not snow.
Shadows...because the sun is out.
The kiddos in my neighborhood, riding their bikes
around the cul-de-sac.
My morning walks have been outside again...not on the treadmill.
2 robins...they must be nesting in my yard somewhere.
Small buds forming on the trees.
Watery eyes and stuffy noses.
A long line at the car wash.
Aaahh...I feel it. Spring is in the air

Okay...it is no secret that I'm not a fan of winter.
I can tolerate snow on December 24th and 25th, and that's about it.
Seriously...even as a kid, the snow bugged me. I hated that crunching
sound of my boots against the snow as I would stumble unsteadily to school.
So if I was not a fan then, imagine how I must feel now.
It is almost April. In years past I have already had the lime
stuffed Corona, and burger on the grill celebrating the
first 65 degree day; the end of winter.
What's going on.
In a previous post, I said I would find beauty in it.

My Favorite Age...

It's funny because ever since I had my own children,
every age is my "favorite" age.
They are about to turn 8 and I love the age they are at.
They make me laugh with their wit. They keep me
on my toes with their thought provoking questions.

"Seriously Mom, how did a bunny rabbit leave all this
candy; and neither of the dogs made a noise?"

I guess the appreciation of every age, falls in
line with a mother's love.

But as I reflect, I must say the age of 4 was an absolute favorite for me.
Maybe because the girls lived and I mean literally lived in their Snow White
and Cinderella costumes...and tea at high noon was a must for the day.

At 4 it really is all about them, and they make no apologies for it. I think
as a Mom, I should follow their example.

At 4 they understand, they converse, but you can still see a glimpse of that little
baby that stole your heart.

Well I had the opportunity to photograph a 4 year old. And she was everything
I love about 4 year old girls. I asked her favorite color....she proclaimed PINK.
I asked who her favorite princess was...she proclaimed SLEEPING BEAUTY...(of
course her dress is pink) And what a ham she was. And when she was done
photographing....she let me know that too.

GOTTA LOVE THOSE 4 YEAR OLDS!!!

Once you become a mother, the day in day outs of life become
about this being you have brought into the world.
So once my daughters were born, I really started to cherish
the 2 days in the year that were mine.....all mine!

Mother's Day and My Birthday.

So here's what I want, and it's really pretty simple..no day long spa outings, or extravagant shopping sprees.
I just want a day to do what I WANT TO DO!

So here's what today, my birthday consisted of:

I was awakened by Lola, my golden retriever...
I received cards and gifts from my girls and my husband.
I worked out this morning.
A dear friend took me out to lunch.
My gifts were simple, but absolutely fabulous.
And my hubby is in the process of making a delicious dinner.
I'm sharing pics of my 2 favorite gifts from the day...

I'm a huge fan of trivia...this should be lots of fun!

Red, red wine....goes to my head....
Yes for Courtney you can never go wrong with a great bottle of the red vino. Oh and it must

Maybe because it's a day where people go out of their way to say I love you to the people they love
Maybe because I remember being a little kid crafting my own valentines for classmates and loved doing that.
Maybe because red (my favorite color) is everywhere right now.
Maybe because it's so close to my own birthday.

So it's Super Bowl Sunday.
It's a holiday in the Jones house so I felt quite compelled to post.
Those who know me, know I love football and I'm excited for the
big game, but sad to see the season come to an end.
My hubby is making his amazing chili with all the extra fixins'.
And we are looking forward to a great game.

We are pulling for the Giants because frankly, I'm sick of the Patriots.
Come on Eli...

Photo Tip#1

I'm often asked, what can I do to take better pictures.
So I thought I would share some easy tips that Moms
and Dads can do to improve the look their images.
So here goes...

Get closer. That sounds so obvious, but I find, most people
do not follow this rule. Especially with babies and kids, you
can't get too close. We've all seen the "where's Waldo" type
photograph where you can't even see the subject because all
the stuff so busy around it. This is so true for the little ones.

So there you go...get closer...and then get even closer and
then you are probably close enough.

Well, not really. But I am purging some files off my hard drive.
The Holidays are quite busy for Joey LuLus! so needless to say its time to move
files. I decided to give everyone a look at my favorite holiday

A Bouncing Baby Boy!

I'm so excited, I just got a call from a friend and she is ready to have visitors to meet her new addition.
OK...side note, the holidays are tough enough imagine a C-section on December 26th.
Yes, the Rheault family welcomed there bundle Drew William the day after Christmas. JOY!
I will take pictures soon.

A baby, boy or girl is so excited, but with the Rheault family they decided to wait to find
out what they were having. The are already blessed with 2 girls, and I'm sure the tempation
to find out was there. Image the glee that must come with this ultimate gift...a
day after Christmas. Needless to say, i'm so happy for them.

So what do other think, or what did others do?
We had twins and didn't find out what we where having.
Some say that was crazy. But for us it mad the ultimate gift a little bit sweeter.

I just love the new year. Don't get me wrong, the holidays are great, but
I always look forward to getting life "back to normal"
No more over-eating, no more over-spending. The new year brings a time to assess goals,
a dream to believe you can be what you want to be....
Okay this is starting to sound cliche, which is not the intention. The intention
is to say I'm looking forward to this year, and I hope for everyone 2008
exceeds their expectations.
